After more than 2.5 years of research Schoeller Allibert, a Global player & European market leader in plastic returnable packaging for logistics, has succeeded in producing a new, high-quality plastic big box from recycled fishing nets. With this upcycling result, the company is reinforcing its sustainability strategy in recent years. Under the motto 'Making plastic packaging too good to waste', the company is working hard on its operation. Through innovation, it manages to further increase the sustainable benefits of its packaging products.

The new box was developed in cooperation with the Waste Free Oceans organisation and named after it. The WFO OceanIX box is produced from a substantial number of recycled fishing nets (discarded nets), but Schoeller Allibert expects to only need a minimum of virgin or new raw material for these boxes soon.

The WFO OceanIX box will be launched internally during a festive event to mark the 25th anniversary of Schoeller Allibert in Belgium. WFO will mainly use this box for sponsoring and marketing activities. If the market responds positively, the product can also be used for commercial purposes.

Demonstrating the sustainability of plastic

Schoeller Allibert makes reusable plastic packaging for logistics, distribution and storage. These often last for decades and can then be returned to be fully recycled. Because the company offers a buy-back option, it ensures that its products are not a cause of the Plastic Soup.

The company sees sustainability as the only path to the future and therefore spends a lot of time and energy on innovation, both in its production and with its products. Lighter and smarter packaging can have a big impact on the supply chains in which it is used. In this way, Schoeller Allibert succeeds in reducing its CO2 footprint as well as that of its customers.
